100 Portraits of men
Men, like women, are vulnerable and fragile.
Sometimes stuck in a stereotypical long-inherited male role edged by prejudice and fear even of one's own sex. With expected demands to be the powerful initiator and conqueror.
Not all men are comfortable with this.
Fortunately, the man must be soft, responsive and empathetic. A type of man with qualities we want to encourage and as a role model for our children and our society.
My work mainly wants to portray men in a humorous way in their undressed smallness and vulnerability, reduced to their organ and with all that it can stand for. From undress, shame, fear and shame to vitality and absolute pride.
They can be seen as sculptures on pedestals similar to the equestrian statues of old but disarmed in their smallness with their humorous names. The pun is really important in this context
For the shy protected by a covering like a cocoon.
Like plaster figurines with a glass dome over the most valuable thing on the dresser of mirrors in my great-grandmother's time...
